Headteacher’s Award (18 September 2023)

Victoria Filipowicz is the very deserving recipient of this week’s Headteacher Award. Victoria has had and amazing start to her education at WHS; while settling into Year 7 herself, she has supported and guided one of our new EAL students, becoming a friend and a young interpreter. Miss Pigdon said: “Victoria has demonstrated some of…

Showing Potential

Congratulations to Year 9 student Milly Phillipson, who came first at the Westmorland County Show at the weekend. She has now qualified for the Royal International Show at Hickstead, next July. During the summer holiday, Milly and her pony Paddy came an incredible 2nd place at The Royal International Horse Show final. In December, Milly will also be competing at the London International Horse Show. Good luck Milly!

Equestrian vaulting can be thought of as gymnastics and dance on horseback. Although Ava…

The theme of the fascinating 50 minute performance was ‘From the depths of the oceans to outer space’, exploring the challenges faced in communicating in a variety of inhospitable environments and how science, engineering and technology have provided invaluable solutions. Demonstrations…

A big shout-out to Lewis Jackson-Herdman, who competed in this year’s Junior Troutmasters Challenge; a national fishing competition for under 14s. He did amazingly well and came 2nd in the whole country, narrowly missing first place. Both Lewis and the 1st place winner caught the same amount of fish so to break the tie, the…

Steaming Through the Summer Holidays

It’s great to hear about the exciting things our students filled the summer holidays with. One student, Archie Dixon, spent his time training to be a volunteer guard on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway over in West Cumbria. He is following in his father’s footsteps, who volunteered for over 30 years as a guard and…
